the Old Burying Ground. The magnificent arch erected at the entrance to the
graveyard is known as the Welsford Parker Monument(1857), and is a memorial
to the Crimean War. Established in 1749 and used until 1843 the grounds of
this national historic site now contain intrepretative signs to guide visitors
through the graveyard. Points of interest include the remains of Major General
Ross who was responsible for the burning of Washington during the War of
1812, as well as the oldest remaining headstone dating back to 1752.

of the church was built in 1820 and rests atop the site of the first Roman
Catholic church in Halifax. The roof is topped by the tallest polished granite
spire in Canada, rising an astounding 128 feet. Still in use today this church
is considered to be one of the cornerstones of the community.
