Spring Garden Road Streetscape Project
Spring Garden Road is undergoing a major streetscaping project between South Park and Queen Street. HRM has released the two schematic design options for public feedback – Pocket Parks and Paver Promenade. The Association will be engaging members throughout the summer to inform an impact and strategic assessment; and wayfinding. These will look at how to minimize the impact of construction on businesses, and looking to the future, how to capitalize on the completed streetscaping project.
The Association met with HRM officials in early June, and learned that the anticipated construction start date for summer 2020 is unlikely. A major component of the project is to underground power and communication lines, and improvement of the street elevation to improve conditions for pedestrians. New design elements such as green stormwater alternatives will also involve working with multiple stakeholders to design and construct. Taking the time now to do more investigation of existing subsurface conditions will ensure the design is based on the best information possible and allow HRM to answer all the design detail questions. This will minimize surprises to the construction timeline and budget. The Association has stressed the need for HRM to get it “right” and believe they are taking a responsible approach.
Investigative work will commence in July/early August and will involve night time work. The Association will be proactive with communication and make all information available to members as received.
Construction continues at the corner of South Park and Sackville on Southwest’s mixed-use development, which will include PAVILION condominiums, the YMCA Centre of Community and a residential rental complex.
Completion anticipated for 2019.
Construction is happening at Westwood's "The Doyle": south side of Doyle Street, Brunswick Street, Spring Garden Road and Queen Street.
Westwood has committed to the following public enhancements: new street lighting along Doyle Street, plant new trees on all four streets abutting the development, all new sidewalks and increasing the existing width by 50%, adding hourly public parking within the new development.
The building itself will feature seven story mixed use development, three levels of underground parking, 210 parking spaces, 35,000 + square feet of retail and office space, rooftop restaurant, 100 + residential suites.
Completion anticipated Spring 2018.
Located just off Spring Garden Road and across from the library, the Margaretta will be a high end nine-storey building with one level of retail, and 147 spacious residential units. Additionally, there are 3 levels of underground parking with additional tenant storage.

Spring Garden West
Spring Garden West is located on the south side of the western end of Spring Garden Road. It will be a mixed use residential development that desires to be an important contribution to the city’s urban fabric and a driving force for the rejuvenation of the Spring Garden district. The application has been submitted to the city.
250 rental apartments (1-3 bedroom), 100,000 square feet of commercial and office space, 350 parking space plus indoor bike parking.
